Backbone Engineering Group

The Campus Network Committee's Backbone Engineering Group (BEG) was formed with the purpose of planning the implementation of the future UCSB data network. Committee membership represents IT experts from across the campus.

The BEG formed the CalREN-2 Implementation Group (C2IG) to plan the on-campus network connecting UCSB research groups to the California Research and Education Network (CalREN-2). This subcommittee did its work from July 1997 through April 2000.

BEG Projects

The following documents are drafts produced for the BEG's Communications Infrastructure Standards project.

BEG Planning Documents

The BEG's first milestone document describes the Committee's goals for the campus-wide backbone network, including the production of short-term and long-term plans for its development.
