About the OIT

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) plans, develops and maintains the campus-wide information technology (IT) infrastructure, provides leadership in IT matters, communicates policies and directions with the campus community, and coordinates those campus-wide IT services for which it does not have direct responsibility.

The OIT's responsibilities include the provision of reliable voice, video, campus backbone and wide-area data networking services to the campus community. The OIT also acts as a technical liaison to all areas of the university and provides external representation for the campus in IT matters.

The OIT reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor. In partnership with the Information Technology Board (ITB) and the Information Technology Planning Group (ITPG), the OIT will provide strong leadership for the campus in IT matters.

The OIT's priorities are:

  • To maintain and enhance the University's IT infrastructure, with emphasis on the continued development of the Optical Network Initiative (ONI), our Next-Generation Backbone (NGB) project, and the Intrabuilding Wiring (IBW) project that brings campus-standard wiring to selected campus buildings and facilities.
  • To work closely with committees and task forces charged with rethinking IT organization.
  • To work with senior campus administrators, faculty, and the technology community to develop a predictable stream of funding for information technology projects of campus-wide importance. The specific goal will be the development of a Network Funding Model that will capture the true costs of network development, growth, and maintenance.
  • To address internal organizational issues to ensure that the OIT evolves in a manner consistent with campus IT requirements.
