UCSB's off-campus connectivity includes links to the Internet, regional and national research and education networks, off-site offices in leased spaces, and dial-up modem pools.
Most of the off-campus data is sent via UCSB's CalREN2 connection, which
is an optical link supporting multiple lambdas and data rates. The current off-campus data rate is 1Gb per second. CalREN2 directly exchanges traffic with various research, educational, and commercial networks. These peers reduce our commodity Internet traffic and thus save the campus money. Qwest and Level(3) are paid service providers when direct peering is not available.
Typical research and education peers include the following.
- Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California CENIC
- Internet2
- Department of Energy ESNet
Current network status is available by calling (805) 893-2800. Problem reports should be directed to your local network administrator.
