Dear Colleague,
I would like to invite you to become a member of the Information
Technology Planning Group (ITPG), which is being organized by the Campus
Network Committee (CNC). This group will be co-chaired by Glenn Davis
of Information Systems & Computing, and Elise Meyer of the Physics
Department. The first meeting of the Planning Group is scheduled
for Tuesday, October 6 at 11:00 AM in Broida Hall, Rm 3033.
Last spring in its review of the organization of Information
Technology, the Campus Network Committee concluded that more effort
should be applied to planning and to the identification of areas which
require greater attention. The CNC-ITPG will be entrusted with these
responsibilities. As a result of its discussions, it may make specific
recommendations for action to the Campus Network Committee, or it may
suggest that the areas it has identified be referred to a new or existing
subcommittee of the Campus Network Committee.
Both of the models for the organization of Information Technology
recommended to the Senior Officers by the Campus Network Committee
included an Information Technology Planning Group, which would play
a major role in the planning process. If either of these models is
implemented by the Senior Officers, then I would hope that the
CNC-ITPG would evolve into the Information Technology Planning Group
envisioned in them. On the other hand, if the present Information
Technology structure is retained, the CNC-ITPG will continue as a
standing subcommittee of the Campus Network Committee. In either case,
I believe that it will play an important role in campus-wide
Information Technology planning.
I hope that you will be able to participate in the CNC-ITPG.
Please do not hesitate to contact Glenn, Elise or me if you have
any questions concerning it.
Sincerely yours,
Robert Sugar, Chair
Campus Network Committee
