Departmental Laptops

  Project:  Departmentally Owned Instructional Laptops

Sponsor:  John Davis, Classroom Services Manager, Instructional Resources

Summary

Provide Instructional Resources with laptops that would be issued to individual departments on a quarterly basis for classroom display purposes. Assignment of laptops would be based upon demand by faculty scheduled in classrooms equipped with data projectors.

How This Project Supports the Academic Mission

This policy would make it more efficient and convenient for faculty to use computers in the classroom. Demand for computer display has grown exponentially in recent years. Lack of sufficient core funding has led to recharges for the delivery of computers to classrooms.

Funding Source

Needed.

Costs

$25,000 - $50,000, assuming 10 to 20 departments, and $2,500 per laptop, including maintenance agreement and peripherals.

Matching Opportunities

Instructional Resources along with individual departments.

Staff Support Required

Existing departmental administrative staff for equipment checkout. Technical assistance from either Instructional Resources or existing departmental technical staff.

Existing Resources to Be Used

Laptops would be used to complement existing infrastructure of classrooms equipped with data projector and network port.

Project Timeline

As soon as possible.

Life Cycle of Result

Three years.
