Dear Members of the IT Board,
I am delighted to be able to announce that Elise Meyer has
accepted the position of Associate Director of the Office of Information
Technology. Elise has been at UCSB for twelve years, serving as the
Director of Physics Computing Services for the last eight. She has
been very active in campus-wide information technology affairs,
as co-chair of the IT Planning Group, ex officio member of the IT
Board, chair of the CalREN-2 implementation group, and member of a
host of other committees.
The Associate Director will manage the operations and staff
of the OIT; develop plans to maintain and upgrade the campus IT
infrastructure and services; develop IT policies and priorities
for consideration by the Director and the IT Board; work with the
Director to coordinate those campus-wide IT services not under the
direct control of the OIT; maintain contact with campus-wide and
departmental IT service providers; co-chair the ITPG with the
Director of Information Systems & Computing; and manage the finances
of the OIT. Clearly, this is a huge job. However, I am confident that
with the support of the ITB and the ITPG, Elise will perform it
superbly. Elise was selected for the Associate Director position
after an extensive search which attracted 57 candidates from both on
and off campus. I want to thank the Search Committee for its thoughtful
work, and Glenn Davis, the Chair of the Committee, for his superb
leadership throughout the search process. I believe that the Committee
has gotten the OIT off to a great start.
