TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY
Dear Colleagues:
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Mark Aldenderfer
as Director of the Office of Information Technology effective January 3,
2001. In this position, Professor Aldenderfer will take the lead in
developing strategic plans for UCSB's information technology
infrastructure, and in integrating information technology into the
campus's research and instructional activities. He will have overall
responsibility for the campus-wide information technology infrastructure
and for the coordination of information technology services.
Professor Aldenderfer joined the UCSB Department of Anthropology in
1990, and is internationally known for his work on the archaeological
analysis of foraging societies. He is Editor of the Society for American
Archaeology Bulletin and of several web-based journals. He has served on
the Executive Committee of the Society for American Archaeology and as
Chair of its Task Force on Information Technology. Professor Aldenderfer
has made extensive use of information technology in his research and
teaching, and has written extensively on the challenges of digital data
preservation and publication in his field. Since his arrival at UCSB, he
has provided thoughtful advice on information technology through his
participation in a wide variety of committees at the department, college
and campus levels. We look forward to his leadership in his new
position.
Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
