The Moorea Coral Reef Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site seeks a qualified database programmer to support and promote the scientific mission of the LTER site. Expertise with procedural programming for scientific applications (e.g., Java/C/C++); demonstrated experience in building dynamic web-based applications using common Internet-based languages and standards (Java, XSLT, JSP, PHP, XML, SQL, LDAP, Web Services); close familiarity essential with various data management tools, including configuration, debugging and management of Internet services (HTTP/Web/SSL, SMB, SQL, LDAP, SSH, CVS, X11). Demonstrated experience with multiple operating systems, including, foremost, close familiarity with one or more Unix variants (e.g., Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris), as well as Windows and MacOS X-based systems.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental or Physical Science, Computer Science or equivalent education or experience. Must possess excellent communication and written skills, and ability to work within a team.
