Yes. 2. If you have Quality of Service requirements for your applications, how are you planning to solve them? We don't currently have specific requirements for QoS, however there is general interest in putting voice and video on the network (e.g. distance learning, teleconferencing, etc). Our plan is to provide switched 10 and 100 mbs ethernet to the desktop, and have enough switching capacity in the core network to handle the traffic, using a mixture of fast ethernet, fddi and gigabit ethernet when available. We hope a combination of plenty of bandwidth, plus QoS support at layer 3 and above, will be sufficient. 3. How are you planning to provide CalREN-2 functionality on your campus? (what options are you considering?) We're interested in solutions that make use of our existing network, which is ethernet and fddi (rapidly changing from router based to switched based with VLANs). We do not have plans to install ATM anywhere. To provide calren-2 functionality we think this implies QoS support at the IP layer (I'm not that familiar with the options, presumably this would be RSVP or something like it). Bob
